The CAA just published the endgame: routine BVLOS without segregated airspace

The CAA has published a Concept of Operations for the thing everyone in this industry has been building towards: routine BVLOS in shared airspace — integration with manned aviation rather than temporary danger areas — phased in from today's segregated operations towards integrated scenarios beyond 2028.

The architecture rests on six mechanisms: electronic conspicuity, detect and avoid, reliable command-and-control links, UTM, system-wide information exchange, and ground surveillance infrastructure. Approvals become risk-based rather than reservation-based, building on the SORA methodology the UK already uses. No new privileges — but a very clear signal

The CAA is explicit: this ConOps grants no new operational privileges, and today's approval routes stand. So why does it matter to a dock operator this week? Because it describes the selection criteria for the next five years. Integrated airspace is earned by evidence: operations that can demonstrate reliable equipment, disciplined records, airspace awareness and honest incident history are the ones regulators will admit into shared skies first.
